Chiang Mai is located in the mountains in Northern Thailand, and is about a 1 hour's flight from Bangkok or an overnight train from Bangkok. Chiang Mai has over 300 temples and almost as many as Bangkok. It is a popular tourist destination as the hotels are of a high quality at a cheap price, very friendly people, cooler than in other parts of Thailand and a great feel to the city. The city is easy to get around by public transport or a push bike with a population of approximately 160,000 people. There are a lot of cultural experiences available in Chiang Mai like Thai massage, Thai cooking, Thai language and yoga. The Old City of Chiang Mai is a square bounded by moats and walls. Chiang Mai is trying to preserve the Old City from future development. The best time of the year to visit Chiang Mai is July and March, when the weather is relatively mild and the air is clear. From April to June it is hot and dry. September is the rainiest month but even then there are clear days.
