Even though Koh Samui is Thailand's third largest island, it has a very relaxed atmosphere.  Most of the hotels are on the eastern side of the island stretching out over the many beaches, like Chaweng Beach, Chaweng Noi Beach, Lamai Beach and Laem Set Beach.  Chaweng Beach is the heart of Koh Samui and has the main shopping area.
